What do you consider yourself a “pro” at?
I laughed quite hard at this..I thought about the things I am NOT a pro at, but that was just negative. Then, mostly because I just finished working on it, I thought about the Advent calendar craft I found on pinterest.

So how does it relate to the writing prompt? Well…my crafts NEVER turn out like the ones I try. That is fine with me…I’m a pro because I keep trying. I don’t give up. I find ways to switch up items in the craft, I tend to use items I already have or modify it to work for us. Yes, it does not turn out the way it was supposed. Yes it looks crazy or wilted, but my son loves it. My son thinks its better than the one I found and want to do on our own.
I’m a pro, because I don’t give up or feel horrible guilt because it was not a perfect replica. It’s perfect, because I am proud of what I did and my son loves it. I’m a pro, because I have FUN and enjoy the memories I am creating with my son. I am a pro at showing my son that as long as we have fun, it doesn’t matter how the project turns out. I’m a pro, because I show my son to just go for it and be proud of what you created.

It doesn’t look like the one on pinterest, but I just love it…and son thinks it’s the best thing he has ever seen.
I tried to modify it by taping some coins and dollar bills to some rings…which made it too heavy…which in hindsight was not the smartest since it weights it down. I also wrote some fun activities on the rings (pillow games, hide and seek, special snack-which will be almond ice cream with bananas, special games)
Then I decided to leave the rings empty and add put various small toys in a grab bag for Dinosaur to pick from. I got small plastic dinosaurs, three Christmas bells, 2-one dollar bills, and various coins.
Next year, I think I am going to try it again and let him pick wrapped ornaments from the bag. I think he’ll enjoy unwrapping a new ornament (even though it’s the ones we already have) every day.
What are you a pro at?

Sounds like you had fun figuring this out. If people only did things that they were perfect at we’d all be sitting in the dark. And no Twitter. Ach!
Hmmmm….I’m a pro at administrative stuff. Not fun but if you really need me to organize an event, I’m your gal. Note: it will be on-time if I’m paid…not so much if I’m not
.
yes…perfection is boring and lonely. I think I would rock if I got paid too, LOL
I often hesitate on this kind of question too. I often say “Oh no, I wish I was that” or “I consider myself more ‘aspiring’ than professional” etc. I think I’m afraid that if I admit I am a pro I will be held accountable and all of my mistakes will be highlighted with neon signs flashing around them. I’m a pro at coming up with ideas for things, though. lol
Yes…it;s more fun having fun and making it your own.
I really like to pretend I am crafty even though I am so far from the truth. I love things that are fool proof. They make me feel like Martha Stewart.
yes…when it comes out like it should I feel lke a queen.

I really don’t attempt many craft projects because I get too frustrated when my product doesn’t match my vision. How wonderful that you keep trying and adapting! I think you are right – it’s the fun you have making it that is the most important.
Thanks babe! I hope he keeps that attitude when he has homework, LOL
This is why I stay away from Pinterest! Are we really a pro at anything? I mean, there’s always room for improvement, right?
Happy SITS Day!
Thanks…yes we can always improve babe.
I don’t really consider myself a pro at much of anything…I ‘dabble’ in many things, shall we say? I love your confidence though. Happy SITS Day!
Thanks! I am trying to teach my son to enjoy it and not get too caught up in the drama.
Love your attitude Karen – it is all about having fun! Hope that your new year is going well & so happy to see you featured on SITS!
Thanks!!!! Yes my new year is great.. How about yours. Trying to get organized and blog and read more blogs… I am so behind.
I think that’s a great thing to be a pro at. What a beautiful skill to pass on to your child — a willingness to keep trying and be proud of your efforts.
thanks! I hope he keeps this attitude when faced with homework.
Nice idea about wrapping the ornaments. They can be added to the tree until it is finished. Pinterest is hard to live up to but so much fun to look at. Enjoy your SITS Day.
thanks! yeah, I see pitnerest as a good idea place, but pictures like advertisements can be staged, LOL
I’m a pro at organization. Happy SITS day! Nice post. Enjoy today.
Thanks! I try to be organized…good for you babe.
With kids and art, as long as they have fun then the project was a success! I think I am a pro at cooking. My family seems to like everything I make and I enjoy doing it.
THanks! Being a good cook for your family is a great thing Yes, having fun is the most important part of it all.
Good attitude:) Fun is what matters anyway, kids won’t remember if your projects were perfect, only that you spent time together. Pinterest can definitely be anxiety inducing, at least for me! Happy Sits:)
THanks! Yes, I want him to remember that we had fun together not that it was perfect…who wants boring perfection when we can have messy fun.
This is great! You two made a memory too, Pinterest can’t do that…
I know exactly what you mean – my crafts never come out quite how I envisioned them! This looks super fun though – I’m sure it will be a fun memory! You should make it a tradition
I get exactly what you are saying. There’s too many good things on Pinterest to do and work on but its ok – even if it doesn’t come out the best, it’s the memories that come with it that count.
Happy SITS Day! I like your version BETTER!! It looks real and it looks like tiny hands helped. Even better I say!!
I’ve always wanted to try my hands at arts and crafts myself. At least you tried to make the paper tree like the one off pinterest. I have a sewing machine in my room that’s been collecting dust for nearly three years. Maybe I should make use of it by buying a sewing kit and mending those sweatpants in my closet that have a big hole in them.
I’m like you, my crafts never seem to turn out like they are supposed to, but my son and I have fun, and that is what is important. I am enjoying reading through your posts and I look forward to following your blog! Happy SITS Day!
I *love* this mantra and I often have to remind myself to have fun when a Pinterest project goes South
