Vision Board and My Suprise

Finish the Sentence Friday

And now for this week’s sentence to finish:  ”When I was younger, I wanted to…”
And next week’s sentence to finish: ”I blog because…”

”When I was younger, I wanted to…” be a teacher and a mom. Seriously, that is what I wanted to do. I would pretend to teach to my “students” or toys. I would plan out my family. Yes…crazy I know, but really I was ahead of the times. Technically that could be my vision board.

I would draw pictures of what my family would look like. How many kids I would have, their names, their eye color, hair color, height. I should have kept going with my vision board, but in the end I got what I wanted. I’m an educator, though I was laid off for budget cuts then rehired at a similar program to teach. I’m a mom to a wonderful, amazing, intelligent, and loving little man. Sure it didn’t all work out as I had planned, but it did come true.
I’ve taught at a residential school (where the kids lived on campus) and for special education schools. I have been a self-contained teacher, reading teacher and literacy coach that pushes in to the classroom, reading specialist that works with students individually, and a reading teacher that works with small groups. I’ve been teaching for over ten years and love what I do and can’t imagine not being a teacher. Besides, I met my wonderful friend teaching. Even though we do not work together anymore, she is an important person in my life.

1. Do you have a doppelgänger? When I was about seventeen I was helping out in a university administration office.  I had to open applications and file them in appropriate drawers. Well, when I opened one file, it was me! I was as if someone had taken my high school class photo and put it their application. She had my black curly hair, my style of cut, my nose, my eyes, my face. It was the freakiest thing I had ever seen and I always wondered if I would ever run into her.

2. Do you keep your car cleaned up? NO…I am terrible with that ask my parents or hubby. BUT NOW with the FlyLady I do. Every Friday, I clean my car which is even dirtier. Between traveling from one to school to another, I sometimes eat in my car and the mess builds. I have tons of audio tapes, bags, books, and test everywhere.

3. What is a current fashion that drives you crazy. Girls wearing clothes are are too tight, short, or low. As a teacher I always made sure I was covered up and wearing appropriate clothes. Now, it seems that girls are expected to wear almost nothing. Cleavage and butt cheeks show with no shame at all. They have no clue about dressing respectfully or respectful. They have no clue that you can show your curves while being covered up.

4. How often do you go grocery shopping?  I used to shop every other week, but then I would always need more bread, eggs, almond and rice milk. Now I shop once a week according to sales. Some items are weekly necessities and others are purchased because of the sale. It makes it easier to save money, not waste food, or run out of food and make annoying unexpected shopping trips.

5. What has been the best surprise of your life? My son, sure we did IVF but there was no guarantee it would work. When I told I was indeed pregnant and then watch my son grow inside of me and eventually brought it home…Well what a true miracle and surprise from God.

  1. I always said I wanted to me a wife and mom or a nun when I was young. I was not catholic. I am new to your blog and have really enjoyed looking around. I love the title.

    • thanks babe…off to check out your blog. A nun? wow, did a nun make a good impression on you? I always wondered how people got the “calling” to be a nun or priest.

  2. Karen, your childhood dreams sounded so similar to mine and truly happy that your dream came true for you, too!! And loved seeing that picture of you happily pregnant. Wonderful, wonderful surprise for sure. Thanks for linking up with us again and so hope you have a wonderful weekend, too!! 🙂

  3. What I hate is when people come into job interviews dressed like that! Sheesh! My mom and dad would have beat me for even wearing something like what girls wear today. Happy Friday my friend!

  4. Well congrats on being a mom and getting both of what you wanted when you grew up. I also had ALL of my kids named once upon a time ago. Now I’ve got one boy named Christopher and we agreed on that name in the 11th hour. 😉

  5. Not many people become what they dreamed of as a child – so nice that you did. I wanted to be a truck driver for a little while, but I can barely maneuver my SUV so it’s a good thing that did happen.

    • I know, sometimes I think I’m going to hit our garage or think I’m parked great and I’m a mile away from where I need to be, LOL

  6. KAREN!
I loved this post. Dirty Car young lady! hahaha
I also loved #4- that’s true. I need to cut back on the grocery shopping so maybe if I went more often for what I needed and did some meal planning I could cut back on cost and waste.
AND lastly you know I feel ya on number 5
    You rock!!!

    • oh thanks babe!!!! You ROCK too!

We have an only, so I wonder if the more kids you have is shopping twice a month cheaper? An interesting thought.

  7. How wonderful that your dream was fulfilled! I always wanted to do something in healthcare but it changed pretty regularly as to what it was.

  8. Wow, that’s so cool that you wanted to be a teacher from such a young age. I remember playing school when I was in elementary school. But I never really wanted to be a teacher other than that. But now I homeschool and I love it. Go figure!

    • thanks babe! I tried to teach my son when I was laid off for a year. It was the hardest thing I have ever done. I LOVE my son but could not handle that, you rock!

  9. OMG! I’m a firm believer in Prosperity Books/Vision Boards. M family made our own books when I was a child. I got everything in my book. My mom still has hers and when we look through it we’re AMAZED at how much has been manifested! Never too late to start another one!

    • that is beyond awesome that you still have yours. You are RIGHT, I still have more to envision and create! Thanks for the motivation babe!
