Getting Healthier and Stronger for my son

I LOVE my 20lb kettle bell, it is definitely going to build major muscle. I NEED to get to a gym and work on machines though…perhaps if I can save some money and find some time. Time and money…why are you always causing me problems? 

I want to be healthier and stronger for Dino. I want to be able to carry him around for longer periods. He cried the other day that I don’t pick him and carry him around anymore. My heart broke. So when he sees me exercising I tell him I want to be stronger to carry him around. He may be growing up, but he still wants to be my little boy.

I recently put on a pair of size 16 pants and was shocked they fit. Now I know sizes of pants are all different, but these were pants I haven’t worn since before Dino was born. I tried on some dresses I have…WOW…I can’t wait to start wearing them.

I still have lots of jiggly flab…but when I flex it’s almost impossible to pull at the fat. (except my arm…but the flab decreases when I flex) That all has to be a good sign, right?  

I even got my first compliment at work…someone noticed how thin I look. When they asked if I was dieting, I replied that I am eating healthy and strength training. Strong is the new skinny.

Those calves are all muscle!!!! Aren’t they amazing?  My upper legs are mostly muscle, my thighs and butt are getting more muscular. My biceps are growing even bigger and my triceps are SLOWLY growing. 

Sorry about the vacuum and dog bone in the background. I had to take a selfie and Dino was asking a million questions about Jurassic Park…as if he’s never seen it before.

~~~CURRENT GOALS~~~

1. I can now do three sets of 10 push ups (on my knees). For me that is big, since when I started three was the most I could do. I WANT TO DO 5 push ups on my toes.

2. I want to be able to do 10 correct burpees with ease and not feel like a sweating klutz

  1. I know the feeling of not being able to pick up my girls, but that is for me having a bad lower back. I thank god for the chiropractor, because right now thankfully I am ok and can do that and much more I couldn’t do before. But still so very proud of you and seriously you are doing great, Karen! Huge hugs and truly awesome!! 🙂

    • Thanks Janine…it’s so empowering to take back control and get in shape. I won’t meausre my success by a scale, but by how much I can do and how long I can carry Dino.

  2. I love this! I am totally on the same page. I tell my daughter “I don’t want to be skinny, I just want to be strong, healthy and less jiggly!” Good for you…and thanks for the inspiration!

    • That’s the perfect things to say…strong, healthy, and less jiggly. Because less jiggly means more muscles. Good for you for sending the right message to your daughter.

  3. I love this! My kids are my motivation too. I realized when I had 2 under 2 that I had to do something so I could move and play more with them. I wanted to be a fun mom who got right down on the floor or ran around chasing them. I still focus on the scale for myself, but I don’t worry about the number because it’s more important to me that I’m modeling good habits and setting them up for a better, healthier lifestyle than I had.     • Yes, modeling for them what it means to be healhty is so important. When Dino sees me exercise I keep saying it’s to get stronger. Then I showed him this weekend how I lift him up in the air and count to ten…he loves his strong mommy.

  4. Great work Karen! Strong Is the new skinny and Sexy. I admit that I still watch that scale but the numbers aren’t as important as the improvement in energy, mood and strength. I love the power I feel strength training. And when i was able to do my first sets of regular push ups, then diamond push ups it was an amazing feeling. Thanks for sharing Karen and those are great goals. I’ve fell over everytime trying to do the Bakasana pose 🙂 maybe one day. Taking that time for our health is the best gift to ourselves and our family.

    • ((HUGS))Thanks Aries. Yes…skinny and SEXY. I forgot about that. It’s true…skin and bones is not as appealing as muscles and health. Diamond push-ups? Oh I have to see whta those are.

  5. That 5.5 inches on the thigh was what caught my attention. I can’t even imagine my thighs being that much smaller. That would be such a treat! I have been trying to walk like 2-3 miles per day, but I think I need to add some hand weights or something because I’m not seeing much of a result from it. #SITSSharefest

    • Thanks…I love all my muscles and knowing I can do more with my strength than I could just being thin. I just gave my mom my 5lb kettlebell. She was amazed at how she worked muscles she wasn’t before. Strong is the new skinny!
