Goodreads Summary: The Ship of Brides (Audible)
The year is 1946, and all over the world, young women are crossing the seas in the thousands en route to the men they married in wartime – and an unknown future. In Sydney, Australia, four women join 650 other brides on an extraordinary voyage to England, aboard the HMS Victoria, which also carries not just arms and aircraft but 1,000 naval officers and men. Rules of honor, duty, and separation are strictly enforced, from the aircraft carrier’s captain down to the lowliest young stoker. But the men and the brides will find their lives intertwined in ways the Navy could never have imagined.
AMAZING!!!! What an awesome book.
At first I was worried as it was a slow and tedious beginning, then it slowly builds up and all you want to know is how they will survive on that ship.
I was sobbing at the end, I never thought it would ever end like that. Perfection.
You come to know the women, love some of them, hate others, pray all their journey’s are not for waste, hope each one finds happiness, and get sickened that society and it’s views of men and women have NOT CHANGED AT ALL!
SPOILERS ((((Avice is spoiled and arrogant and it becomes obvious she only cares about her image. She slowly pushed her husband into marriage. As it turns out, a week before she arrives to England, he writes her to say he is married with kids but wants her as a lover. In the end she obviously goes back to Australia, having lost her baby, and without a husband.
Margaret, who I thought was the grandma, AND WAS WRONG, was so stupid for bringing her dog on the ship. I also understood that she was very pregnant and worried about being a good mom, after her own mom left and didn’t die like she told others. Joe is a great man, his mother loves Margaret, and they have a wonderful life.
It’s obvious Jean has had a terrible upbringing and the same will happen to her. There is no way she’ll be welcomed into an English family if she ever made it. I mean what mom lets her 15 year old daughter get married and go on a ship for 8 weeks to a new land? You know her life will not get better.
Francis is the grandmother! We find out her horrible past and why she is the way she is. What happens to her on that ship is disgusting, but I must say society really hasn’t changed much in all these years. We are led to believe that Nichols never sees her again. But no! He does find her and they live happily every after!)))))

I love a psychological thriller. I checked to make sure there was no sexual violence, I don’t think I could have read this if it was involved. Going to enjoy this crazy ride. After the first few pages I already HATE the ex husband…just saying.
???Not sure what to read next???
