In the Master Bedroom with FlyLady

master bedroom collage2Last week I wrote about Dino’s room and bathroom organization and cleaning, you can read that here. Hubby did an amazing job last week…he helped so much and made me a happy wife. Who doesn’t love a happy wife? a few chores last week. This week was a bit weird, we did work on Monday, since we were both off, but with the storms and hubby’s hours all messed up Tuesday and Wednesday were a bit messed up. I am sure he’ll get back into the routine today and Friday.

master bedroom collage checked offPicMonkey CollageEven with a small bedroom, I needed a laundry area…and it works now. Under the drying rack I have a basket for delicate clothes, bag for towels and sheets, and all my crochet storage. Eventually I’ll get a nice basket for crocheting supplies.

our bedroomNow Hubby has made the bedroom more of his “man area” which is fine. I don’t get too worried as long as it’s clean…well mostly clean…our bedroom3 our bedroom2Any tips on how to give the bedroom a nicer touch…even if it’s a manly look.

What did you clean/organize this week? How do you split chores in your house?

In the Bathroom and Dino’s Room with FlyLady

bathroom and dino room collage2Last week I wrote about our kitchen organization and cleaning, you can read that here. Hubby did a few chores last week. This week he has dived in full force and I am so happy about that.We both work full time, therefore we both need to put equal amounts of time into keeping our place clean and organized. I can feel the stress and pressure lifting off of me and in turn making me a nicer wife.

PicMonkey CollageWill it stay as clean as we left it? NOPE, but it gives it a good cleaning for the next few weeks.

Sure Dino’s toys will be all over the place again, but the broken ones are gone and the items he “borrows” from the kitchen and dining area are all back in their correct spots. Sure items will get buried under the bed…then in a few weeks, we will do it all again!

The toilet is always cleaned (swish and swipe) each night and every few days I clean up the hair and grime in the bathroom with a just used washcloth. I have to clean his bath toys every week, but when focusing on this zone, I give them a SUPER STRENGTH cleaning.

What did you clean/organize this week? How do you split chores in your house? .

In the Kitchen with FlyLady

PicMonkey CollageIn the past I have done the Let’s Get Organized Blog Hop…but I know my limits. In order for me to stay organized at home, school and in life I have to give up the blog hop.

I am still going to post about organization on Thursdays. I continue to follow the FlyLady method, I think it is efficient, smart, and easy. I have started to print out all the chores(that relate to us) to be done in each zone and hung it on our bulletin board. Hubby is aware that we both have to take part in the chores since we both live here. It is not fair for one person to do it all when we both work full time.

PicMonkey Collage

He agreed, especially after I reminded him that a man who helps clean is a sexy man. He has a done a few things in zone 2, the kitchen. Since we have a small kitchen it gets done faster. By the end of the week the kitchen will be pristine and in good shape. We of course keep clutter down, keep it clean and when we get back to it in five weeks, it won’t be in bad shape. It’s all about maintaining the organization and cleaning.

Now, as a teacher I do have off several weeks during the school year and in the summer. When I am off and my son is in daycare, I feel it’s only fair to do more of the chores as I am home and available to do so.

I don’t follow the FlyLady routine one hundred percent. I do change around the chores in each zone to fit our life and don’t buy her products. I am on a tight budget and was able to recreate her supplies with my own resources. While I still do the swish and swipe, I do it at night. My son started getting up in the early morning hours to use the bathroom. As he leaned forward, extremely exhausted, against the bottom of the seat I cringed in horror. I had not yet cleaned the toilet, it was then I decided to clean it each night while he got ready for bed. Now I don’t have to worry about how how filthy it is at three in the morning, I know it’s clean.

What was on your cleaning schedule this week? How do you handle chores in your house?

CollageIf you follow FLYLADY, then you know this week is the main bathroom and one other bedroom…for me that means our only bathroom and Dinosaur’s room.

We have a TINY bathroom, which we have gotten used to…even though when we are sick I do wish it was bigger. Though it does help to have a boy who can pee pretty much anywhere if need be, LOL

Behind the door storage…this was my mother’s idea. In this storage I have all the personal hygiene a woman needs, my makeup and hair accessories.behind doorOne of our towel racks is great for a hand towel and a the disposable hand towels…great for a dinosaur.. behind door 2Under the sink is my most favorite part…a basket filled with rolled up hand towels and washcloths. I also have extra bathroom wipes and my hairdryer. The basket is sitting on a wire rack which raises it off the ground…in case there is a flood and great for storing extra wrapped and unused toilet brushes for my swish and swipe routine.

under sinkDino modeling in front of our sink…it’s small but works for us…and we try to keep it uncluttered…but it’s so hard…any CHEAP suggestions?.

sinkAbove our toilet I have Windex which is part of the swish and swipe routine, bathroom wipes, lotion, Tony’s aloe gel which keeps finding it’s way back there, and a candle that has lost it’s sent but looks cute.

above toilet

Another one of my mother’s ideas was a shelf. That holds the swiffer wipes which I I keep forgetting to use, cleaning wipes, and pretty towels.

shelfInstead of the shower curtain liner with the pockets…which never got clean but was a great space saver, I now use corner storage. These great baskets with suction make the perfect place for toys and bath products…and they are easy to lift and clean.

I’m FLYing

I’ve been posting about my love for FlyLady Clipping Curtains and FlyLady and FlyLady and Cozi Calendar…well, I can’t begin to tell you how much she has changed my life.

My place is cleaner than it has EVER been, cleaner than when I had my own schedule.

Between the

Habits of the Month

The Current FLY Zone and detailed missions

Daily Focus

My place is rocking, don’t get me wrong. I still have loads more to do, but what a difference…not only in the way it looks, but the way it feels.

With her swish and swipe  my toilet is clean enough to eat off, this is definitely a toilet I would want to get sick in. Balboa’s  toys can fall behind the toilet and I don’t care that he sticks his head there to get them, because it’s clean! I know that when my son goes to the bathroom and touches the toilet I no longer cringe and worry about what germs he’s contracting.

Now that son is old enough, he knows that he can’t play with the cleaning products. I can happily keep them within reach for a fast swish and swipe or wipe up.

My fridge is amazing and less cluttered. It’s not just about getting rid of clutter in your house, it’s about getting rid of clutter in your life. Can I keep my family healthy with items in the back of the fridge that I can’t see? I know what’s in my fridge and know when it needs to be tossed and I do it immediately.

Something spilled in the fridge? before I would pretend it wasn’t there saying I would do it later, now I WANT to keep it clean and quickly clean it up with just soap and water.

WARNING…It’s an OLD fridge in a rented apartment…despite that it looks GREAT!

Everything has it’s place and container. In a few days the cold cuts will be used up and new ones will be bought and placed into the right container. The pot roast will be eaten, the container emptied and, hold a new dinner. I have room for my son’s lunch bag and even have room for mine (not pictured).

Clipping Curtains and FlyLady

My mother gave me such a great idea!!!

You know the clips you use for bags of chips? Well, my mother suggested using them for the curtains in my son’s room.

ant room

It worked so well….

I then bought more and used them in the living room too!

Can you see the clips?

The diaper box was SUPPOSED to be a cool tunnel for cars, but Dino has claimed it as a library book holder. Smart kid.

How about now?

Pretty AWESOME, right?

They do the job, no sewing required, you can change the length and style of your curtains, and if you decide to get different curtains, you have TONS of clips for chip bags. A true WIN WIN situation.

FlyLady cartoon  Last week I posted about using FlyLady and Cozi to clean and organize. Well, as I read and learn more about FlyLady I LOVE her even more. I have deleted my own cleaning schedule and now follow hers fully!

With the Zones or sections of the house to focus on certain weeks and the coordinating daily missions everything is expertly cleaned each month. With the Daily Focus I can set aside time for myself and specific tasks and quick cleaning. With the Habit of the Month, it just becomes second nature.

I love the morning and evening routines, I don’t have to look at the list anymore, I know EXACTLY what to do when Dino goes to sleep or before he wakes up. Even when he’s not feeling well and gets up early, I can still do my routine.

I sat down in my apartment yesterday, staring at the clean and was confused about what to do…so I got up and set my timer and cleared another hot spot… It’s really addicting.

It even works with kids of all ages. Dino loves to play “who can clean up faster.” He of course always wins. He also loves to vacuum with the carpet sweeper, wipe the walls, and help make his bed TEMPORARILY.

If you want to know more, check her out, it will be worth your time.

FlyLady and Cozi Calendar

I am not being paid for this post, just sharing my opinion.

Does anybody use either? I have turned from both, thinking it was too complicated…but I have to say I am LOVING IT.

I still use my weekly and monthly chores. Doing two things every day, keeps me from cleaning like mad on the weekends. Sure, there are days I don’t follow through, but I also include days to catch up.

FlyLady also as five weekly missions, each day she gives you a detailed and QUICK thing to do in each area. It sounds overwhelming, but it’s not.  Today I have to remove smudges from windows and walls in my living room in QUICKLY. How simple is that? It’s quick and easy. My monthly chore is to clean the fridge and microwave and my weekly chore is to dust. I already dusted two days ago, so that’s one less thing to do. With hubby being expected to help it’s even easier. I was able to clean the fridge and microwave yesterday, so I’m ahead of the game.

Okay, so I know I am off this week, but I started this the week before spring break. Now I perfected the routine and know it will be second nature to continue this while working. Life will be easier. When you first start, you spend a few minute decluttering each day. I still have spots to declutter (hubby has boxes in the basement and garage) which I am scared to open.

The morning and evening routines are things that I pretty much do already, but I love having a list to follow. I often forget things…which is what happens with mom brain. At first I thought her “dressed to shoes” was silly, but now I understand. I am always breaking my toes and slippers do annoy me. With shoes on, I really can do anything. Quickly take out the garbage, go to the garage, or get something out of the car. When the spring and summer comes, I can go out as soon as Anthony wants.

Hubby laughs when I say I want the sink empty and shining each morning, but it really does make me feel good to walk into the kitchen or bathroom and see a shining sink. It makes me want to keep the sink empty at all times, I like to see the shine and don’t want it to ever pile up again.

Some people say there are a lot of emails, but if you create a filter for them, you can check them all at once. I create filters for most of the emails coming in, it’s easier to read a list when I have time rather than every time you get an email.

As a working mom, its not overwhelming at all, it actually helps me keep it all together. I’m lucky that my son loves to help and we make cleaning a game. So doing a simple and quick chore is fun for him and keeps his body moving-which is great for his sensory needs.

With Cozi, I use the free version. I just add birthdays as repeating yearly appointments. Cozi now works with FlyLady, so her to do lists and missions are updated on my calender.

The BEST part…each family member has a color and you can add their email to send them reminders. This is great, because hubby has to help with chores.  A few simple things each day keeps us running smooth. He also gets email reminders about family birthdays directly from the site, not me. So no more, “I didn’t know it was my mom’s birthday today.”

The mobile app is great too, works perfectly and alerts me to appointments and reminders. It’s very easy to add an appointment on either the app or website.

I print out each week, starting on a Sunday. I cross off each task as it is completed. This helps hubby see all that I do and how he has to help. It also helps me organize my time according to his work and extra hours.

Cleaning and Drained

I have been so bad and let my cleaning and organization slip up, but I’m back on track now. I let the cleaning slide. While I really don’t care because playing with my son will ALWAYS come first, I do want him to have a clean and safe in which he can play. CAM00106-001

What is your favourite way to recharge when you feel drained of energy?

Wow, this really got me thinking. How DO I recharge? hmmmm. I don’t think I do, which is sad. I’m usually drained by the end of the night and despite having work to do, I just crash. I just can’t function when I am drained, I’m not a good mommy or wife. I don’t take good care of myself to begin with, so I know if I don’t sleep I will be a horrible person the next day.

The funny thing is, I don’t sleep straight through. I usually wake up twice a night or get up about an hour before my alarm goes and just toss and turn until then. I should start (and did start yesterday) doing yoga/Pilates in the morning. Even a few minutes will help wake me up…I hope.

Even now as I write this, I am beyond exhausted but have some fuel left to check out other blogs. I rushed my son to the local urgent care in town tonight, because he had pink eye. I hated spending money on a bill we can’t afford, but Dinosaur needed to go. He was so knocked out and out of his routine (even though he goes with the flow, he is a stickler for his routine) he just about fell asleep on the way home from picking up his medicine.

Man, I feel my eyes itching, I’m sure I don’t have it, but my mind is playing tricks on me. Or I could be just delirious from exhaustion.

oh wait…another thing that recharges me is my son’s love. On the way to the pharmacy, he softly said, “I love you Mommy.” Words alone could not express how much I love him. I tried to express it in words. i know he knows, but he can’t comprehend the full extent of my love for him. Hearing those sweet words from him, keep me going when I think I am done.

How do you all recharge?

Good News

It’s Thursday and I have a cleaning schedule idea from another blog I’d like to share. Though, before I do that I want to tell you all the good news I mentioned two weeks ago. I got a part time job. It’s less then I was hoping to get, but puts me back in the education field. It’s a bit of a commute, but it totals two and half days of work so I can still have time with Dinosaur. Possibly he may need to do three days at daycare, which I think he desperately needs. I start today, after heading over to human resources to do all their paper work.

Wish me luck and keep me in your prayers.

So now on to the cleaning schedule…you know how much I love those. Over at Imperfectly Polished she did something so simple but clever. She put her cleaning schedule in a picture frame. That is sturdier than laminating and easier to switch out and change if you change your cleaning schedule. I started laughing aloud at how clever this was and wanted to smack myself for not thinking of it sooner. Go check out her blog for more ideas.
