pup and hound

Now that I am starting kindergarten in the fall, I have to read certain books over the summer. Mommy is making me start now and I really like the books she borrows from the library.

Dino is FIVE today

Dino’s 5th birthday party was a success.  I love that Dino was so happy to see all his friends and family. It’s so amazing to see how much he has grown and matured since his last birthday. He ran around like a boy, wow! He’s not a little guy anymore, he’s a boy…sighs.

Enchanted Garden hosted a wonderful party for Dinosaur. The food and kid activities were better than I imagined.

Me: Did you like your party?

Dino: Yeah, it was super awesome.

Me: What was your favorite or best part of the party.

Dino: Running around with my friends. (tumble mats and bounce house for the first part of the party)

Me: I am glad you had a good time. What do you think about being five soon?

Dino: I’m super big boy now! See. (shows off his muscles)

Me: Yes, you are. But, you’ll always be my baby, no matter how big you get.

Dino: I know, Mommy

Getting Stronger and Healthier for my Son

Untitled

I love going to the gym and getting a nice workout. I walked 21 flights of stairs on the step master at the highest resistance. GO ME!

I can do more squats and lunges with my kettle bell and find that when I dance I don’t need that many breaks. Yeah, I can shake it up and keep going.

I CAN NOW DO 10 KNEE PUSH UPS WITH DINO ON MY BACK

I did two sets of 10 REGULAR push ups

To me that shows great improvement.

Dino loves when I use him to exercise. He gets such a kick out of being lifted up and down and laying on my back. He proudly says, “My mommy is getting stronger.” That is such an amazing statement, strong is powerful, strong is beautiful, strong is important.

I have plans to go clothes shopping with my friend, since nothing really fits me. While I rather shop at Dress Barn, I don’t have the money. It will be more convenient to use my Kohl’s card and just pay it off with the next two paychecks. I hope I CAN find a few pieces that will be cool in the summer yet professional enough for work. I’m think a bunch of summer skirts and tops and one or two pants/capris.

“The Nicest Thing Someone Ever Did for Me…”

Man, I am sitting here trying to think. I feel awful that I can’t remember all the wonderful things that have been done for me…makes me a horrible and evil person, right? Seriously, the only thing on my mind this Thursday afternoon is parent orientation for kindergarten tonight.

That’s right, I am writing this on a Thursday.

That’s right Tony and I are going tonight to meet the teachers, sign up for classroom screening, and get more information and resources than I think I can handle.

I have so many questions….

  • Will he be mad if I give him a packed lunch and the other kids buy school food?
  • Is the school food organic/NON-GMO?
  • What if he doesn’t learn to zip up his own jacket?
  • What if he doesn’t make any friends in the classroom?
  • What if he is incorrectly placed in a classroom and he needs more challenging work?
  • What if he’s being pushed too hard and feels inferior?
  • What if he need extra support?
  • What if he’s just too busy with his body and gets picked on by the teachers instead of being taught differently?
  • Does he need a backpack?
  • Does he need pencils and paper?
  • What if doesn’t like his new school or teacher?
  • What if he gets bullied?
  • What if the moms in the PTA are mean and ostracize me for being a working mom?
  • What if I am pressured into volunteering when I don’t have time?
  • What if he’s ostracized because his mom can’t volunteer?
  • What if he makes friends but I HATE the moms?
  • What if the kids don’t like him and he never has any friends?

See it just goes on and on. Hubby is relaxed…well he’s more worried that because he’s a custodian at another school in district Dino will get picked on…or have less than others have. As for all these worries he’s says I’m crazy.

So, in all this I did not finish the sentence at all. I will say that Dino is able to pick out the sweet and wonderful things people do and will say, “That was so nice.  ______ did that for _________ and that was nice.” I hope he is able to use this skill in school to make friends, learn, and be successful. I hope he is able to make friends and be friends with everyone. I hope he continues to use his manners and be respectful of others, but not letting others walk all over him. I hope he stands up for himself with pride and respect. I hope he loves learning and continues to learn and question everything. I hope he starts learning and never stops. I hope school begins his journey of changing the world.

UPDATE

I was hoping they would give us more information tonight, instead they will mail everything to us in August. I am glad hubby picked up summer reading information at his school. I can get started on introducing Dino to reading series and books he will see in school. They didn’t have any of that at this school. I guess all the parents will be running around in August fighting over school supplies.

I am looking forward to his mini kindergarten to get to know the teachers and fellow students. I am looking forward to bus orientation so he can feel like a big boy. Hubby is also looking forward to walking Dino to school most mornings.

It was nice to see some moms that I already knew. Dino will know some friendly faces and hopefully make long lasting friendships.

 ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Hope you all had a wonderful Mother’s Day yesterday, I know I did. Tony originally had to umpire in the evening…but the games were cancelled so we all had the day together.

I started at the gym (climbed 22 flights of stairs on the stair machine) and worked with free weights. Then I went off to Whole Foods and had a morning snack, while I crochet and listed to an audio book in the car. It was so quiet and wonderful. I didn’t have to answer any questions or share my food.

Then I spent the day with my men…it was a quiet and sweet day with just the three of us…and Balboa and Nemo.

I got the best Mother’s Day gifts…wooden turtles that Dino and Daddy painted. I LOVE turtles and was so happy to add them to my collection in the curio cabinet.

At daycare Dino made me some super adorable and loving gifts. He had to write four reasons he loves me…and he picked such sweet and caring things. What a smart and lovable little dude I have.  In case you can’t see the writing…”She gives me new toys, She brings me to do sports, She reads me books, She scratches my back at night before bed.”

mom day gift collage

Dino had so much fun hanging out in the beautiful weather. He was in his glory. He made a mud swamps for his dinos and superheroes and created a pool of mud. I wish I had taken pics of it. I had to clean it up…but we had so much fun. Can’t think of a better way to spend Mother’s Day. I will definitely cherish these moments.

IVF Was The BEST Decision I Ever Made

FTSF collage (2)

Finish the Sentence Friday

“The best decision I ever made…was going through IVF.”

So many decisions have been made over the years that I am thankful for. Deciding to talk to that cute guy in my college literature class. Deciding to date him. Deciding to marry him. All have been wonderful, despite all our ups and downs, it was all worth it. But the BEST decision I ever made was to go through with In Vitro Fertilization. We had tried other fertility treatments, but THIS was the big one. It was going to be a long road and I was ready.

We took the class on how to properly fill syringes with doses of medicine and how to to properly inject the hormones. We filled out all the paperwork and waited for the delivery. Though when I emptied out the huge box and separated the multitude of syringes, needles sizes, hormones, medicines, and syringes I was utterly overwhelmed.

A full-blown panic attack ensued when some of the hormones did not match what the nurse gave me. I began sobbing and called the nurse who calmly explained that those were generic hormones and went through each item with me. In Vitro is NOT for the weak-hearted, looking at those needles scared me to death. Especially the progesterone one…it was so long, meant to go through fat.

long list

short list

My friend Cathy can attest to my break-down. I called her and explained it all, she made me laugh as usual. My friend Kit can attest to the horrors of injects as she was there for the VERY first injection that brought Dino into my life.

Sadly I was bloated and had undiagnosed preeclampsia during my pregnancy. Sadly I did not get to enjoy my sister’s wedding as much as I would have liked to. Sadly I delivered early due to complications from the undiagnosed preeclampsia.

GOODREADS SUMMARY: As a boy, Will Klein had a hero: his older brother, Ken. Then, on a warm suburban night in the Kleins’ affluent New Jersey neighborhood, a young woman—a girl Will had once loved—was found brutally murdered in her family’s basement. The prime suspect: Ken Klein. With the evidence against him overwhelming, Ken simply vanished. And when his shattered family never heard from Ken again, they were sure he was gone for good.

Now eleven years have passed. Will has found proof that Ken is alive. And this is just the first in a series of stunning revelations as Will is forced to confront startling truths about his brother, and even himself. As a violent mystery unwinds around him, Will knows he must press his search all the way to the end. Because the most powerful surprises are yet to come.

MY REVIEW: Another total mind f#ck by Harlan Coben…this one I kind of knew the ending as it got closer. How could you do that to the ones you love. WOW…poor Will to be kept in the dark about it all.

Another must read…seriously that good.

Goodreads Summary: After listening to her closest friends’ latest travails in love, parenting, and careers, superstitious bride-to-be Nicole (Nic) believes she has the perfect recipe for everyone’s happiness: a bridal shower “cake pull” in which each ribboned silver charm planted in her cake will bring its recipient the magical assistance she needs to change her destiny.  Melissa (Mel), still ringless after dating the same man for six years, deserves the engagement ring charm.  The red hot chili pepper would be perfect for Seema, who is in love with her best male friend Scott, but can’t seem to make their relationship more than platonic.  And recently laid off journalist Nic wants the shovel, which symbolizes hard work, to help her get her career back on track.  Nic does everything she can to control who gets which silver keepsake – as well as the future it represents.  But when the charmed cake is mysteriously shifted from the place settings Nic arranged around it, no one gets the charm she chose for them. And when the other party guests’ fortunes begin coming true, Mel, Seema, and Nic can’t help but wonder…. Is the cake trying to tell them something?.

My Review: very cute book, I kind of new it was all going to end beautifully, but the ride there was fun and enjoyable. Great ending…going to start all over again.

Goodreads Summary: An extraordinarily beautiful Amish woman, a dangerous femme fatale, is the central figure in a story that reveals a dark side of Painters Mill and its seemingly perfect Amish world

A rainy night, an Amish father returning home with his three children, a speeding car hurtling toward them out of nowhere.

What at first seems like a tragic, but routine car accident  suddenly takes on a more sinister cast as evidence emerges that nothing about the crash is accidental.  But who would want to kill an Amish deacon and two of his children? He leaves behind a grieving widow and a young boy who clings to life in the intensive care wing of a hospital, unable to communicate.  He may be the only one who knows what happened that night.  Desperate to find out who killed her best friend’s husband and why, Kate begins to suspect she is not looking for a reckless drunk, but instead is on the trail of a cold blooded killer amid the residents of Painter’s Mill.  It is a search that takes her on a  chilling journey into the darkest reaches of the human heart and makes her question everything she has ever believed about the Amish culture into which she was born.

I LOVED every book in this series and know this book is going to be just as sick and twisted. Always a great and captivating read. Can’t wait to see how this ends.

A few weeks ago I was looking for a way to replicate the bracelets my son made me in daycare. I asked around on the facebook and was directed to Etsy. I asked some vendors and found Tyo’s Creations a shop on Etsy.

Alicia worked with me and was patient and understanding of my request. She emailed me numerous times to ensure I was happy with the progress of the bracelets. They even came in adorable boxes, which Dino has now claimed as his own.

How did Dino react to these replicated bracelets? He LOVED them and thanked me. He’s such a cutie.

Thirteen Years

Thirteen years of marriage, love, fights, memories, and dreams…

PicMonkey Collage

13 years of marriage. 13 years! Wow! How fast time flies…. In all those years we have experienced.

  • owning a condo
  • becoming dog parents
  • dealing with 6 years of infertility
  • becoming parents
  • losing a job
  • losing our condo
  • moving into an apartment
  • starting over
  • planning birthday parties for our son
  • letting go of old dreams
  • creating new dreams
  • dealing with loss and grief
  • opening up to love and hope
  • laughing at old memories
  • creating new memories

we’ve been a lot of ups and downs in the past thirteen years. Some times were tough, but in comparison I think we are pretty lucky.

We have changed over the years, but through it all we are still here and happy.
