Now that I am starting kindergarten in the fall, I have to read certain books over the summer. Mommy is making me start now and I really like the books she borrows from the library.
Amazon Summary: Shortly after a breakfast generously supplied with pancakes, Nate the Great got an urgent call from Annie.
“I lost a picture,” said Annie. “Can you help me find it?”
“Of course,” said Nate. “I have found lost balloons, books, slippers, chickens. Even a lost goldfish. Now I, Nate the Great, will find a lost picture.”
“Oh, good,” Annie said.
Nate, with the cool detachment of a Sam Spade, immediately plunges into his new and baffling case. Getting all the facts, asking the right questions, narrowing down the suspects. Nate, the boy detective who “likes to work alone,” solves the mystery and tracks down the culprit. In the process he also discovers the whereabouts of Super Hex, the missing cat.
Dino Review: Nate likes to solve mysteries. He finds his friend’s picture of a dog. Her brother painted over the picture and that wasn’t very nice.
Mommy Review: What a cute book, we read it in one sitting, but will have to do more comprehension activities with the book. Maybe a chart for next time…My prediction is…, Nate asked the following people…. and I was wrong/right, the person who did it was….
Dino here, now that I am starting kindergarten in the fall, I have to read certain books over the summer. Mommy is making me start now and I really like the books she borrows from the library. The new library is really big and has lots of space to walk around, play, and books to find. I want to read all the books, but Mommy says only a few at a time.
Amazon Summary: Scaredy never sleeps — sleep might mean bad dreams about dragons, ghosts, vampire bats and polka-dot monsters. Our wide-eyed hero has a plan: stay awake all night, every night. Between counting stars, playing cymbals and making scrapbooks, he does a good job of avoiding dreamland. With exhaustion taking its toll, Scaredy comes face-to-face with an alarming horoscope prediction: All his dreams are about to come true! He must prepare for the worst and his Bad Dream Action Plan includes a fire extinguisher to snuff out dragons and a fan to blast away ghosts. But when disaster strikes, will Scaredy survive this ordeal? Will he thank his lucky stars? Will he find sweet dreams? Scaredy Squirrel at Night tackles a fear everyone — and especially the young — can relate to. It’s a bedtime story to make light of kids’ fear of the dark and a fable for our sleep-deprived society.
Dino Review: I like Scardey Squirrel. He has lots of plans and tries to get the bad dreams. He thinks if he sleeps he will be scared. You know what? His plan doesn’t work and he falls asleep. He has good dreams and wants to sleep at night.
Mommy Review: I think Dino will love this series, it’s visually appealing but not over done. Scaredy organizes his plans quite well and explains negatives of no sleep and positives of sleep..which models organizational skills. A great book and can’t wait to read more adventures about Scaredy.

It’s Wednesday and time for the Kid Lit Blog Hop and my story.
As you know I love reading books. I love to read in bed, read in the living room, read to my animals, and read to Mommy. Now even Balboa joins us on the bed as we read at night. Reading is fun and I love to show all that I know now that I am a big boy.
In daycare we recently had fun learning about Dr. Seuss and I got to bring in one of his books. I read this with Mommy at home, so I know what’s on every page.
I can sing the alphabet, but forget which letters are which when I look at them. Mommy says soon I will learn to read the letters and even words in books. I can pick out all my numbers though and am learning to count and add.
I am learning so much at daycare and Mommy gives me work to do at home. Its always fun work and I am doing a great job. She prints them out from EdHelper.com I think it’s a teacher site. Mommy always finds the best things for me.
What resources do you find are the best for additional work for kids?

It’s Wednesday and time for the Kid Lit Blog Hop and my story.
As you know I love reading books at night in bed…I even need to keep one of the books with me in the bed…just in case I want to look at it when I get up in the morning, but it’s too early to call Mommy.
You want to hear something really cool? Mommy said she is going to start buying books from Scholastic Reading Club through my daycare. This way my own library grows, I LOVE having lots of my own books.
Besides books, I like to read Ranger Rick Jr. magazines. My LaLa and PopPop bought me these magazines. There are so many great things to learn in Ranger Rick Jr. magazine. Plus Mommy had these magazines when she was a little girl.
In the magazine there is…
- always a story about Chester and Bonnie
- a story about Ricky Raccoon and his friends
- new animals and things they can do
- hidden pictures, activities for me to try
- pictures other kids drew
- a pull-out poster.
Did you want to know what I learned???
- Ducks can waddle across an icy pond
- Cheetahs can’t roar
- Lizards squirt blood out of their eyes
- Panda babies are really small when they are born
- Tree frogs are the size of my small finger
- Tree frogs can’t hop, but they crawl
- Red fox have red fur, black feet, and yellow eyes. I have brown eyes.
- Cheetahs run very fast
- Zebras jump over each other
- Gorillas climb up trees
- Raccoon can do pull-ups on branches
- White-Tailed deer baby have white spots, but when they grow up the spots disappear.
What do you know about animals?

Hi everyone, Dino here. My mom originally wrote this post from her POV, but we talked and decided to change it. Instead of my story being on Saturdays, I am going to post on the same Wednesdays as the Kid Lit Blog Hop. I love books and think this is a good way to talk about them and my story. Mommy reads me books every night in bed…it’s our special thing to do. I get to pick three books, two if I choose to stay up a bit later and play. Most times I choose to read three books. Mommy asks me lots of questions about the books, which is fun to answer and show her how smart I am.
When I slept over my Pop Pop and La La’s house, Pop Pop read me three books. He posted about it on Facebook
Mommy hosted a giveaway a LONG time ago for some of Sherill S. Cannon’s books. You can see that here. I loved reading Santa’s Birthday Gift during Christmas. I always wondered if Santa knew Jesus and if they were buddies and they are! I bet they talk all the time.
Mommy wanted to add: It was a great way to connect our faith with the magic of Santa. I make sure to convey the magic of Santa, so no matter how old he gets and no matter what he believes, he will always believe in the magic of Santa. I pray he keeps that magic alive for his kids as well.
My La La found this book at a book fair. It belonged to other kids before me and they decided they no longer wanted it. I am so glad I have it now, it’s fun to read and I remembered what is on each page. Mommy says I am super smart and have a great memory. I agree. Mommy and I have fun reading the end of this book. The last page looks like they farted, so we pretend they are talking and farting. I asked Mommy to write what they say and she did. What a good Mommy.
Mommy wanted to add: I love seeing previous names on books, what a wonderful history and to know that this book brought joy to more than just Dino is magical. Sure some of the facts are outdated, but the love of dinosaurs is still there. My mother found a new copy of the book and what a treasure it is. .
Yes, we pretend they are farting on the last page…he’s a boy and I’m a mom of a boy…and farts are funny.
And now for some pics of me playing with dinosaurs. Want to play with me?

It’s that time again…for my story. Our elf, Scooby Doo, is back and he’s hiding and watching me. I think I’ve been a good boy. What do you think?
He hid in mommy’s cabinet with all her little figurines, on our tree playing with ornaments, on our living room shelf in the remote control holder (and had evidence that he ate a Hershey kiss), sleeping on our kitchen cabinets, and hiding in our snacks while eating veggie stick.
We have fun looking for him every morning. Mommy and me also open another day on our advent calender that La La bought for us.
It’s my turn to hide…Can you find me?
Here I am!
Mommy says my body and brain is growing. I am getting stronger and smarter, I agree.
I create really cool and amazing things with my LEGOS.
I’m creating lots of cool things in school. My teacher helps me, but I am getting better at doing more and more on my own. Look at my ghost, pumpkin book, and bat.
I’m coloring better and TRYING to stay in the lines. Mommy says I have to color lighter, when I push the crayon too hard it hurts my hand. I was a good boy while I ate at the Cheesecake Factory with Mommy and Aunt Janet. I also put my clothes on all by myself, even if I get my pants backwards sometimes…but I STILL look cool.
How can you tell that your body and brain are growing?
It’s Saturday and time for my story once again.
This week I’ve been doing a lot of chilling with my dog, Balboa. He can be grumpy sometimes, but other times he just wants to lay next to me, watch TV, and see if he can sniff an extra crumb of food.
I need to relax after working hard all week. Remember last time I got to blog and told you how much work I am doing in school…well it continues. My brain keeps growing. Do you think I might run out of space for all the new things I am learning?
I think I work even harder than Mommy and Daddy, but when Mommy picks me up she won’t let me play for a few extra minutes. That’s not fair. Can one of you talk to her about that?
Even though she won’t give me those extra few minutes to play (and she left my lunch box and water at school) I still love her. We have fun taking pictures and Mommy lets me look at them to see which are my favorites. I love being silly with Mommy.
I know it’s been a while since I go to tell my story.
Maybe I will just come here every other Saturday, since I’m very busy.
I’ve been reading, playing, learning, smashing, flying, and getting sick. See? I’m a busy Dino.
READING and WRITING :
Mommy got these books from Storia.com…The books read to me…I feel like a big boy. I also like using Write Letters and ABC Phonics. Mommy said if I am a good boy I can get my own iPad for Christmas.
School is hard work, I am learning how to read and write my letters, learning about the weather, months of the year, days of the week, and so many things. I can feel my brain growing…but I get so tired after school and just want to sit and watch TV when I get home.
PLAYING and SMASHING:
I’ve got more superheros now…I have Hulk, Captain America, Thor, Iron Man, Spider Man, Wolverine, and Batman. Mommy let me watch the end of the movie The Avengers…where all the superheroes come together and beat up the aliens. I love when the Hulk gets to SMASH! I want to smash things too….
The other day I was really sick. I stayed on the couch all afternoon and night. Mommy gave me my juice and dinner on a table next to the couch. Being sick STINKS, but I like how much Mommy takes care of me, holds me, and kisses me.
It’s Saturday again and time for my story.
Mommy says…this is my last year at daycare, next year I have to go to a different school for kindergarten. I don’t understand why, but I will find a way to stay at my daycare. Mommy says I may have to be dropped off and picked up at daycare, but then my teacher will drive me over to my new school. Like I said, I am NOT going.
Mommy says…this year I have to get ready for kindergarten by reading more books, practicing my letters and numbers, and learning about telling time. I think my mommy is losing her mind, we already do that at home and at my daycare. She says something about her being a teacher and learning and education is important, but like I said she is losing her mind.
Mommy put the wrong month on the sign I was holding, so she had to pic it on PicMonkey…not sure how a monkey can help her. What a silly Mommy.
I say…I AM learning. We have a math room, and a science and social studies room. There is also a book area. At circle time we sing songs, talk about the weather, the days of the week and what we are going to be learning. I have to write letters, and follow directions. I have to count numbers and draw pictures of what I read.
I am learning how to write and read the letters A and B. I learned about how to be a good friend and make applesauce and banana bread in school. We even had to work on our family tree for homework. Mommy said we had to get it done right away even though we had two weeks.
See I’m doing so much I DON’T need kindergarten, I can just stay at daycare forever.
Team Dino is ready to learn!
What do you all think? I’ll give you some dinosaurs if you agree with me. Okay, well I won’t give them to you but I’ll show you my favorite ones.
