Best of Summer 2013 Kid Lit Giveaway Hop

I am so happy to have met Sherrill S. Cannon through this giveaway. Sherrill is an amazing and talented author. Not only does she write books that focus on manners, but she also has a special fundraising 50% of the cost of her books goes to the CureJM Foundation to help find a cure for this incurable children’s disease.

Dino is lucky to be receiving some books from Sherrill…and I can’t wait to link them up with the next Kid Lit Blog Hop with Mother Daughter Book Reviews and Youth Literature Reviews

I know I am interested in her book Santa’s Birthday Gift where she ties Santa into the traditional Christmas Story. I know I have always struggled to get Dino to understand…I have a feeling this book will help better than I could.

So now onto Sherrill and the giveaway

Author Sherrill S. Cannon

All five of Sherrill S. Cannon’s books are in rhyme and all try to teach something like good manners and caring for others.  In less than four years, this former teacher and grandmother of ten has won seventeen U. S. National Awards for her books, Manner-Man, Gimme-Jimmy,The Magic Word, Peter and the Whimper-Whineys, and Santa’s Birthday Gift.  She has also written six published and internationally produced plays for elementary school children, which are available at All of her books are part of a CureJM Fundraiser through

to purchase the books and ensure that 50% of the price goes to the CureJM Foundation to help find a cure for this incurable children’s disease.

A SUPERHERO with manners! Wonder if I can get Dino to dress up as
Manner-Man for Halloween

Manner-Man is a Superhero who helps children learn how to cope with bullying, and to have good manners and consideration for others.  Using the phrase, “I am strong, and my flash is bright; and I will defend you and make things all right…” Manner-Man arrives, helping children learn about sharing and warning about not ‘hitting with words’, suggesting that if someone starts bullying, just shout out “not nice!”  Manner-Man incorporates messages and characters found within some of my earlier books, and invites children to become part of the Manner-Man team.  It reminds them that they each have their own inner superhero within themselves.

Manner-Man has won a Pinnacle Achievement Award and is a Finalist for the Readers Favorite awards, winners to be announced in

The Magic Word is one that everyone needs to learn. “Elisabeth Keys never said thank you, excuse me or please. She made fun of people, she’d argue and tease. She took what she wanted whenever she could, Elisabeth’s manners were not very good.” So begins the rhymed story of Elisabeth, who discovers her lack of friends when no one wants to come to her birthday party. Her mother suggests that she learn to be considerate of others and to say “please” as well as “thank you.” She should treat others “the way that you know you would like,” and should “think more about others and less about you.” When Elisabeth goes to school the next day, she remembers her mother’s advice and uses the magic word “please.” She also tries to become more thoughtful of others. Imagine her pleasure when she returns home to find out that her new friends are all coming to her birthday party. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if children could learn at an early age to be polite and thoughtful of others! This wonderful rhyming book will have your kids saying “please” before you know it!

How a Bully Learns to Share … “James Alexander’s nickname was Jim, But nobody would be friends with him. No one wanted to play with Jimmy, For Jim Alexander always said, “Gimme.” Thus begins the rhyming story of Jim Alexander, whose nickname was Gimme-Jimmy because he was a greedy and selfish bully. Imagine Jimmy’s concern when he found that every time he said the word “Gimme,” his hand grew larger! Jimmy was happy to discover that when he was polite and said, “Please” and “Thank you,” his hand began to shrink. He started practicing his new “Polite Rule” and found out that it was much more fun to share.

The Early Buzz

“Julia Dweck scores another winner Blucy! This book is beautifully illustrated, features solid rhyming verse, has a most unusual main character in Blucy the cat, and will surely be loved and appreciated by all cat-lovers! I would recommend this wonderful picture book to children who love cats and for their grown-ups who will recognize their own cat’s behavior in this funny story. .” ~ Mother Daughter Book Reviews

Ms Dweck and Ms Lebarre have created a delightfully humorous read that will no doubt capture the attention of every little mischief maker. The rhythm and rhyme are wonderful and flow so beautifully throughout the book. The illustrations are absolutely exquisite. I honestly wish I could purchase every one of them to put upon my toddlers walls.” ~ WhenIgrowupIwannawriteakidsbook

“The illustrations are amazing and beautiful and the story pulls you in and had Dino telling Mandy and Blucy what to do and got upset when they didn’t listen to him. He was hysterical with some of Blucy’s antics and wanted to know if Balboa could do that to. Really and truly a cute book and one that Dino will keep reading, especially now that he think he’s a catosaurous.” ~ Dinosaur Superhero Mommy

A blue cat? I love color – lots of color and these illustrations are exactly that. The rythmic method used by Julia is perfect for all ages and the content is entertaining for all – including adults. My daughter loves mood rings so she found this book particularly interesting – what about a “mood cat”. I am also a firm believer and supporter of pet adoptions – so another plus for this story…That Blucy is quite a mischievous cat. Blucy has special facts at the end of the story as well as a game for the kids to keep them thinking. I love this book as I have all of Julia’s books and so do my kids. ~ The Stuff of Success

A Phenomenal Children’s Classic. Children & Adults will love and cherish this beloved tale. Julia Dweck has always amazed me with her talent at writing children’s books and Blucy is by far my favorite one yet. I laughed and giggled my way through the whole book and had to read it again several times for the pure joy of the story. The illustrations are fabulous and very colorful and I found myself staring at each page as I read and just loved the details in the illustrations. This is a RECOMMENDED MUST read story that adults and their children will fall in love with. This book will become the best bedtime story that children will want to hear over and over again. ~ Back Words, White Pages

Headbands of Hope

A great giveaway by Mom on the Run x2

Headbands of Hope giveaway

Headbands of Hope Giveaway!

“Jessica Elkstrom started Headbands of Hope after completing an internship at Make a Wish Foundation of Central and Western North Carolina.  She was pulling her hair back one day and thought about all the children she had met and the thousands of girls suffering from cancer that didn’t have hair to pull back.  Cancer is traumatic enough, but they have to think about losing their lives, as well as losing their feminine identity as their hair falls out.

Jessica launched Headbands of Hope in April, with the mission to fund childhood cancer research and spread hope in girls affected by cancer.

One headband at a time.

For each headband purchased, one headband will be given to a girl suffering from cancer AND $1.00 will be donated to the St. Baldrick’s Foundation to help fund life-saving childhood cancer research.”

Favorite Shows and BACKPACK GIVEAWAY

I don’t let Dinosaur sit in front of the TV all day, but he has his favorite shows that he watches over and over again. Some I LOVE,
some I like and some I think are WASTES OF TIME. Sometimes I put on the shows I can’t stand just to be able to do computer work
or make meals.
Little Bill
because they are a loving family with friends from all walks of life. Little Bill is NOT whiny, just a typical kid that Dinosaur can relate to. Everyone is different and that is normal. They all love each other and are respectful and kind. There is a spiritual foundation to the show as well, that I am grateful for.
Dinosaur likes because Little Bill is just like him, a happy kid with a loving family and lots of friends.
Little Bear:
because he is an only child, like Dinosaur, and has lots of different friends and loving grandparents. Everyone is different and that is normal. They all love each other and are respectful and kind. It is okay to not to have a large family and being an only kid is perfectly normal for their family.
Dinosaur likes because Little Bear is a happy guy, who loves his friends and family, and uses his imagination.
Dora the Explorer:
Mommy likes
because Dora is interactive and gets Dinosaur to use his thinking skills.
Dinosaur likes because Dora always needs his help and thanks him for helping
Mike the Knight:
Mommy DOES NOT like
because Mike is selfish and soiled, he never learns from his mistakes or listens to his friends.
Dinosaur likes because Mike IS a knight and has knightly adventures
Wow Wow Wubzy:
Mommy DOES NOT Like
because while they do share and show friendship, it’s MINDLESS waste of time.

Dinosaur likes because it’s funny, noisy, and fast moving
Mommy DOES NOT Like because he is whiny and soiled child that is so self-centered
Dinosaur likes because it’s bright and funny
 Max and Ruby:|
Mommy DOES NOT Like because there are no guardians living with them, Ruby is too bossy and Max needs adult supervision
Dinosaur likes it’s funny and bright, and Max is always right.
What shows do your kid(s) watch, if any? Do you like them? Or do you want to throw your shoe at the TV like I do?
