Looking back at 2016, now that it’s finished, what is one thing you’d love to change about it?!  For just one event from 2016, you can rewrite history. What event do you pick, and how do you rewrite it?!

It was submitted by: http://berghamchronicles.blogspot.com

Great prompt! Sure there are a few things I would like to change in 2016, but I am afraid if I change one thing then everything else would be affected. I’ve always felt like if I rewrite history, make one change then all of the things and people I love would be different all because I changed one bad thing.

I do wish AJ had stayed up later on New Year’s Eve. I had hoped that if he stayed up later than 9:56 than he would have slept later the next morning. Though in reality, my son is an early riser, always has been, always will be. It’s nice to dream, though right? He woke up at 5:50. **sighs**

Our little family did have an awesome New Year’s Eve though. I planned lots of activities for each hour. That broke up a long night and made us interact as a family. It sure was perfect. We started off by having some picture fun.

picmonkey-collage

I saw a few ideas on Pinterest for kids during the New Year’s Eve night. A few different versions showed writing activities on strips of paper, rolling them up and putting them in a flat balloon, blowing up the balloon, then writing the date on the balloon. AJ had a blast taking each one down at the right time and popping them by sitting on them.

picmonkey-collage2

4 pm: AJ had to interview two people. He could have called up anyone he wanted, but he chose to interview us. We had to answer 1. What did we love about this year? 2. What do we wish we did? 3. What is a goal for 2017?

img_1239

5 pm: AJ had to make a New Year’s Eve ball. We used a blown up globe and covered it in wrapping paper. It was amusing and festive.

img_1238

6 pm: We each had a sheet of paper with 11 things to find in the house. We all had the same list, just in a different order. It was fascinating hearing what each other found.

img_1240

7 pm: We each had to use a straw to move 10 M&Ms from a napkin to a bowl. I’ll admit I was a bit competitive and wanted to beat Tony, which caused Anthony to feel awful since he only got one in the bowl. Tony and AJ played again and I made sure I helped AJ beat his Daddy. Next time I think we should do it with 40 and set a timer for one minute.

img_1243

8 pm:  Balloon Volleyball was hysterical. Not only were we playing with a balloon, but we had to keep Bonus away from it. She wanted to kill it and when she finally got a hold of it she scared herself by biting it and popping it.

img_1244

9pm: We each had to draw 5 things we think will happen in 2017. This was sure fun to not only draw, but share our predictions with each other.

img_1245

AJ fell asleep at 9:56, two minutes after telling Tony he was excited about the 10:00 balloon. After setting my timer for 11:55, I fell asleep as well. I woke up both guys, Tony yelled at me and Anthony was confused and just gave dirty looks.

After I “forced” them to watch the ball drop, Tony grumbled back to bed and Anthony went back to sleep only to wake up at 5:50.

All in all, I think we had the best New Year’s Eve in a long time. I need to make even better activities for next year. Looking forward to having another quiet and entertaining night with my family of three next New Years.

LOVE our Elf on the Shelf

main pic

I see many posts about the Elf on the Shelf. Some praise the little creature, other blast it ever being created. I simply made my own rules for it to work for us.

I let my son hug, hold, and put the elf in his special spot each time he finds him.

Why you ask. I reply with Why not?

The elf is all about fun and magic for us. It’s about a GOOD elf who only reports all the kind, sweet, wonderful things AJ does. It’s about an elf that only gets caught being silly and sweet, NEVER mischievous, rude, and doing anything mean spirited or dangerous.

It;s about adding the magic and joy of the Christmas season, not about me needed to threaten or bribe my son to behave.

It;s always sad saying goodbye to our Scooby Doo, but so much fun meeting him again after Thanksgiving.

November Use Your Words

use your words

Today’s post is a writing challenge. This is how it works: participating bloggers picked 4 – 6 words or short phrases for someone else to craft into a post. All words must be used at least once and all the posts will be unique as each writer has received their own set of words. That’s the challenge, here’s a fun twist; no one who’s participating knows who got their words and in what direction the writer will take them. Until now.

At the end of this post you’ll find links to the other blogs featuring this challenge. Check them all out, see what words they got and how they used them.

I’m using… Bathtub ~ toilet paper ~ plunger ~ ladle ~ mixing bowl ~ Snickers
They were submitted by: http://themomisodes.com

Halloween was fun, my sister visited from Texas and went trick or treading during the day. Our town is awesome, the business on Main Street host trick or treating or kids. As my mother said, it’s like being inside an ABC Family movie and she’s right. Tony and I took Anthony trick or treading again at night.11-13

While it’s fun to dress up, the candy is a nightmare. I told him if he eats too much of that dangerous candy and chocolate he’d be leaving human snickers in the toilet bowl. That’s what happened. While it’s fun to dress up and go trick or treading, it stinks that candy is filled with GMOS and chemicals. Instead they should make organic candy affordable, but then they’d have to admit they’ve been lying to us all along about the dangers if GMOs.

If I could I’d sneak into Monsanto and the major food companies headquarters. What would I do while in there? I’d steal all their plungers, replace them with ladles, then throw full rolls of toilet paper in the bowls. They’d never be able to use the bathroom again.. Not that it would be a problem, they are used being full of sh*t anyway.

11-134

To counteract all this candy and chocolate, I’ve been using my dehydrator to make beef jerky and dried fruits. I LOVE the way the apples, bananas, water, cantaloupes, pineapples, and fruit leathers come out. They don’t have any preservatives, sugar, chemical and still taste great. I only bought a small dehydrator, and at one time only have an amount of fruit to fill a mixing bowl. If I had the space and time I’d make enough to fill a bathtub.

I’m using… ghost ~ secret ~ Halloween ~ pumpkin ~ cool
They were submitted by:   http://www.renasworld.com

Fall is my favorite time of the year; the colors, sounds, smells, and the weather. One thing I don’t like is all the pumpkin flavor for everything. A few years ago it was nice to see a few pumpkin flavors, but now it’s EVERYWHERE and more than half of the time it’s not real…just chemicals made to taste like pumpkin.

AJ wasn’t sure what he wanted to be for Halloween. He told me he wanted to be something cool and scary, I’m sure he picked this up from the other kids. He’s definitely out of the cute stage and into the cool stage. I just hope he knows, and that I taught him well, that being yourself is cool.

AMAZON – Ninja Avenger II with Armor Children’s Green Costume

So off we wen to the party store in town in search of the “perfect” costume. I was sure he’d choose a zombie, ghost, or monster; but then he’d have to wear a mask and he would NEVER make it more than ten minutes with it on. In the end, he was torn between Indiana Jones and a green ninja….the green ninja costume won out in the end.

Now, what about my costume? Any suggestions or ideas? Nothing sexy or revealing…I want to be COVERED UP and warm.

So a few weeks ago I posted this on Facebook.

“So the cleaning lady we had flaked out on us. Decided to not find a replacement and save money. I know I am crazy, but saving money is more important than a super clean apartment.

Wish I had saved that cleaning schedule…do I create another one or just wing it? I HATE cleaning.”

I used to have a very detailed cleaning schedule years ago. it was so detailed that every day of the month had a specific thing to do. Instead of going back to that craziness, I searched all the cleaning schedules and created one that works for us. It’s no secret that I thought Hubby would laugh at my cleaning schedule, but he’s happily helping out. he does live here and wants to have a happy wife.

The great part is that if we clean out the microwave and toaster, the next week we can skip that and clean out the fridge. Or if the blinds and doors are still clean from last week, we can skip that day and relax. Having a chore that last the whole month makes life easier too, we have time to get to it and don’t feel rushed or over worked.

I’m more than happy to share, click on the cleaning schedule to download and then you’ll be able to edit it to your liking.

My subject is “Do you think Valentines Day is a “Made Up” holiday?” It was submitted by http://www.southernbellecharm.com   Here goes:

 photo really lov eme.jpg

Well, let me think about this.  If you really love me you’ll do at LEAST one of the following…  How else can you show your love to me? This is your one big chance, so choose wisely.

  • buy me a diamond necklace or ring
  • buy me a box of chocolates or candies
  • buy me flowers that will eventually die
  • buy puppy or kitten
  • take me out to an expensive restaurant
  • give me an expensive gift card to my favorite clothing store

Am I forgetting anything?

 photo who cares.jpg

It doesn’t matter if you do any of the following things throughout the year… The only thing that matters is how you treat me on the Valentine’s Day. I need to brag and show off what a great man I have.

  • tell me you love me every day
  • bring my car for an oil change
  • buy me bumper stickers that support my hatred of Monsanto
  • pick up food when we run low
  • warm up my car on cold mornings
  • give me kisses
  • make me lunch when I’m home sick
  • call to say hello
  • wash and put away dishes
  • clean up the mess I was too tired to put away
  • tell me I’m beautiful
  • watch the movie I want
  • go out to the store at night because I’m too tired

I KNOW I’m forgetting something.

 photo sarcasm.jpg

Okay…obviously I’m being sarcastic. Yes, I do believe Valentine’s Day is a made up holiday. It’s just pure silliness. Why is it so important  to have a date on Valentine’s Day? Why is it important to go out and prove to the world that your significant took you out on Valentine’s Day.

I understand it’s about the romance, but I prefer romance every day. I prefer my husband to be kind, caring, loving, thoughtful every day instead of just one day a year. I don’t need jewelry, flowers, or clothes to know my husband loves me. I don’t need an animal or nasty chocolate (that is filled with GMOs) to know he loves me. I just need him to show it to me everyday.  So when Valentines’ Day arrives and he hands me a card, I will happily return the favor and be glad he is still my husband. He hasn’t strayed or left in all my craziness.

Now that is love and commitment.

My subject is…It was the best of times, it was the worst of times. It was the time that _________. It was submitted by http://www.clutteredgenius.com Here goes:

It was the time that I forgot that plans change and but life goes on…

Here we were Christmas Eve, which was already bitter sweet with my sister and BIL celebrating in their new home in Texas. Yes, they relocated from NY to Texas. It all happened pretty fast and while I am happy for them, I miss my sister. Life goes on though, right? I know we will get to seem them during holidays and I plan to visit them over the summer with Dino. It’s just weird knowing that she is not a hour away anymore, but across the country. Changes happen and we must keep moving forward making new memories.

This Christmas instead of celebrating with them in their condo, like we normally do, my parents were coming up to our apartment to celebrate with us. Since my apartment is pretty small, we were all going out for a Hibachi Dinner. I am glad I didn’t cook. Why? You’ll see as you read on.

It was a fairly quiet Christmas Eve morning with Dino unusually quiet and not eating much. He said a few times he didn’t feel good, but he was still playing and rolling around like he does. I didn’t think much of it though, eventually Dino and myself get ready. He looked so handsome in a red and black plaid shirt and gray pants. Once he’s dressed he starts complaining even more that he’s sick. This is not new, for the past few weeks Dino kept saying how sick he was feeling. Soon we realized he was only sick for a short time and started milking it to stay home and hopefully have my dad come up to watch him.  One morning, I reached my limit…after complaining he was sick again I explained that Daddy and I had to go to work, Pop Pop had doctor appointments, and if he was really sick I would have to drop him off at the hospital and pick him up after work. Suddenly he was better.

Therefore when Dino kept moaning about being sick Christmas Eve morning, I thought nothing of it. I truly thought he was pretending. Then all of a sudden he got pale and started moving around like he WAS sick. I knew something was up, but before I could act he was in the bathroom throwing up all over the toilet…not much going in the toilet.  His Christmas outfit was done, the bathroom was a mess. I took care of our sick boy while Hubby cleaned up the bathroom. I called my parents to let them know the change. Sadly Dino did visit the sick bucket two times. We ordered Chinese food and I ate sparingly feeling queasy myself. It could have been in my head, but the after Christmas I was sick. Maybe it was nerves, maybe it was stress, maybe it was something Dino passed on to me. I do know that I continued to feel not 100% percent better the rest of vacation.

So is life with kids during the holidays. We make plans and I forgot that nothing is set in stone.

I took for granted that my sister would always live close by…now she is too far away. I wish I had done more with her. Sadly life gets in the way and we forget what truly matters. Life goes on and I now have to save money since Dino and I do plan on visiting them in Texas for a few days over the summer.

Making Elf on the Shelf FUN and MAGICAL

elf collage

In a previous post for a Secret Subject Swap, I wrote about we use the Elf on the Shelf in our home. You can find that post here.

I allow Dino to hug, hold, kiss, and put Scooby Doo back on his designated shelf to sleep or relax. I want Dino to have power over his own actions and choices, I want Dino make know that Scooby Doo is not some creepy elf, but part of the magic of Christmas. Scooby Doo doesn’t report back to Santa with all the bad things Dino did, he only looks for good things and wants to remind Dino it’s Christmas time.

I decided to capture Dino posing with Scooby Doo each time he found him, as a way to make the fun continue and have wonderful memories. Besides, I will need to remember those hiding spots next Christmas.

My subject is: Your elf on the shelf recruited some friends in the off season. Every morning you wake up and all sorts of shenanigans have taken place. Tell me about it. It was submitted by http://www.eviljoyspeaks.wordpress.com Here goes:

The past two years it was all about our elf “Scooby Doo” reporting back to Santa on Dino’s behavior. Then I realized that it took away from the spirit of Christmas and made Dino less likely to enjoy Scooby Doo and more likely to resent him. This year it will be different. This year instead of Scooby Doo hiding in places Dino can’t reach…(which he will lose his magic if he does) I will hide him in places Dino CAN reach. Scooby Doo is a playful loving elf who wants to remind Dino that Santa is watching and only looking for when Dino does kind and loving things.

Scooby Doo will NOT be naughty, just playful!

So let’s see what shenanigans Scooby Doo got into with his buddies.

First night Scooby Doo came back after visiting Santa. Not sure why the pic came out in a red tone, I am hoping to get a new phone that takes better pictures. Scooby Doo, sock snowman, and dinosaur (which you can’t see) were looking at the pictures Dino drew in his small notepad.

elf on shelf

Scooby a mini t-rex, a mini soilder, a power ranger, and a rescue bot all helped each other drink the rest of the chocolate coconut milk Dino left on the TV stand. Dino was so happy to find him, he hugged and kissed him.

 elf drinking milk

Scooby Doo, Sock snowman, Froggy, and Buzz all decided to neslte in some warm towels for a good night’s sleep. Please enjoy the messy top shelf of the wicker basket, no need to thank me…it’s my pleasure.

elf on shelf towels collage

Scooby Doo, Teddy, Water Dino, and Snowman all drew pics on the table with one of Dino’s markers.

elf on shelf tablecollage

I got a new phone with a ROCKING camera!!!!! Finally clear pics!

I got the Samsung Galaxy S5 and so thrilled with it! I decided to go back to a contract after the pre-paid phones just weren’t up to the same quality.

Now back to the Scooby Doo and his buddies.

Scooby Doo was using a minion’s fart gun while the minion, monster puppet, another snowman sock laughed and egged him on.

toy basket elf collage

Scooby Doo, Spider Man Head, and Minion are hanging out, eating fruits and playing with the fart gun. Yes, Dinosaurs’s pajama shirt is on inside out. Yes, there is that meme of Jack Nicholson not giving a f&ck on our wall. Why? Well, why not?

fruit bowl collage

Scooby Doo, Spider Man head, several transformers, one Rescue Bot Human, Orange Robot, Monkey, and Minion were all looking at one of the spiders in Dino’s Killer Spiders book.

elf table

The number of spots to hide the Elf and surprises he could get into are becoming more challenging…but it’s fun. Though a few just as I was falling into a deep sleep, I had to jump out of bed and hide the elf…

The cute part is, Dino puts him back on the picture frame shelf every time. He can’t get him to sit up, so he lays him down. When he gets home from schools, Scooby Doo is sitting up!
