ORGANIZATION…

PicMonkey CollageWhen I first started blogging I had my own cleaning schedule with daily, monthly, and weekly chores…It was detailed and crazy.

Then after much back and forth thinking, I decided to give FlyLady a try. I know it can be overwhelming at first with dressing to shoes and a shiny sink. There are morning and afternoon chores including and each week we focus on a different area. Before you can even clean, you must declutter and organize. It’s a lot at first, but when all done life is so much easier.

Am I a perfect flybaby? NOPE

Do I do the morning and afternoon chores all the time? NOPE

Do I have a super organized house that is always clean and tidy? NOPE

Do I have a mom that always finds something that dirty or unorganized? YUP

Do I swish and swipe the bathroom most mornings? YUP

Do I read every single flylady email? NOPE (I set them up to go directly to a folder in gmail and only look at them when I choose)

Do I perfectly cleaned floor with no crumbs and stains? NOPE

Do I have furniture and fans with NO dust? NOPE

Do I have a perfectly vacuumed rugs? NOPE

Do I have a super  clean bathroom? NOPE

Do I have a perfect living room, with clean couches, and a floor without toys? NOPE

I am far from perfect, but I know I can return to my schedule if need be.

FlyLady has teamed up with Cozi Calendar to include her zones into the calendar. This is great. I love to print out the week so Hubby and I know what is going on each week. We can see birthdays, anniversaries, holidays, parties, appointments, and activities.

ORGANIZATION…

CollageI am not a purse kind of girl, I don’t like designer bags or one for each outfit. I prefer a good bag that can hold LOTS of stuff. You moms know what I mean, right?

After shopping with my mom, she got me just what I wanted. I large tote to hold what I need…and it zips! A PLUS!

CAM06481I have a wallet purse that I keep in my tote…or wear across my body if I just need to run into the store quickly or don’t want to carry my tote.

CAM06475I also keep an old makeup bag in my tote…it hold EVERYTHING I need.

I have feminine products, hand sanitizer, lotion, pain medicine, pens, band aids, first aid kit, flashlight, toilet seat covers, hand wipes, headband, clips, phone charger, fiber packets, chap stick, lip gloss, notes, and can even fit in sunglasses.

CAM06477

CAM06480 CAM06481When I go out with Dino I put my makeup bag in his tote and wear my wallet purse.

CAM06488

CAM06487This makes like so much easier. After so many bags and failed organization attempts…this system works for me? Do you do something similar? How do you organize your bag(s)?

ORGANIZATION…

With me returning back to work full time, I am stumped on how to find the time to shop for make a shopping list, shop for groceries, and make healthy meals every night. I used Peapod MANY years ago and am thinking this might be a good time to start up again. With Peapod I can…

  • Use coupons and have them taken off the next order
  • Coupons get doubled up to 99c
  • Add my items right to the site and that’s my shopping list.
  • If I have it delivered on Wednesday, I can get $5 off the $10 delivery fee
  • I don’t have to leave the house…food is brought right to my door and I can put it away with ease.

Yes, you pay for convenience, but I think in order to be organized you have to make priorities. Between working full time, planning lessons and writing reports at home for work, blogging, crocheting, cleaning and organizing, and being a wife and mom…I just don’t have time to go to a grocery store. Is paying a few more dollars to do one less thing worth the price? YES, to me it is.

logo

COUPONS: I used to have a big red binder full of coupons, run around to various stores to spend as little as possible on everything…again, it’s about priorities. Now I just keep them in a small photo album by categories. It’s easier to get them out and see which have expired and easier to drop them into the correct category.

So what do you all use for making lists and shopping? Do you go to the stores or shop online? How do you organize your coupons?

FEATURED POST

Mandy posted about how she organizes her recipes and sets up a monthly menu. You can see that here. She has a great technology-free system, which looks pretty organized. A whole month of menus…that’s darn amazing and something I wish I could do…but would fail miserably.

Go over and check out her system…might inspire you to rework your menus.

NEXT WEEK I will be talking about organizing your clothes. Do you prepare your clothes the night before or the week before? Or do you get your outfit ready as you get dressed?

Future topics include

How do you organize your purse/pocket book/totes?

Do you follow a cleaning system? Create your own?

ORGANIZATION…

Currently my small fridge barely holds enough…sure we have the shelves on the door, but it’s still not enough. I think we may need a new fridge but don’t want to hit up the landlord for that yet. Therefore keeping everything in sealed containers seems to be the safest bet.

I already have some containers for eggs cold cuts, brick cheese, snacks, and juice. This is what I have done so far. Just remember that does not show the school lunches and water bottles that will be piling up in there soon. There is only one left over from dinner and I need to get those hot dogs into a container.

Slide1I made my own recipe cards, thanks for all the ideas from last week’s post. It may not be the best style or directions…but I can understand them. I like to substitute various ingredients and change dinners up as I go along, so this works for me. Do you add lots of details to your recipes or just add the bare minimum?

Recipe Organization HELP!!!!!!

What online recipe organizers do you use. I have tried a few…but don’t really LOVE one over another. Besides do I really want to rewrite each and every recipe? I would love to know which you use, if any. OR do you use a method without technology? Perhaps just relying on pinterest is the best…besides I have the app on my phone…I just hate having to open a website to look at the recipe….SEE????? I am losing my mind. AAAARRRRGGGGHHHH

I’ve previously posted about crock pot cooking, meal planning, freezer meals. With a super small kitchen I am always changing how I organize meals. I will be full time again in September and want to be prepared. Between blogging, working full time, preparing lessons, crocheting, and being a wife and mom meal and lunch planning is the worst.

If I don’t buy lunches for Dino at daycare, we’ll always have cold cuts, pb&j, items for quesadillas, grilled cheese, mini pizzas, hummus with chips, french toast and ham. They seem to be the cheapest meals. I tend to only buy items we need on a weekly basis, not wanting to overload the small fridge and limited space. I do buy extra frozen that are on sale and store in our other freezer in the garage.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

I am also thinking of starting an Organization Blog Hop on Thursdays. Anyone interested in co hosting or linking up? What do you all think?

oganization buttonYou can link up any post about organization on Thursdays. Small spaces, large spaces, kitchens, bathrooms, meal planning, family, work, entertainment, cars, garages, daily life, holidays…it’s all included. Going to start it next Thursday.

So fellow bloggers…what do you think?

Thankful for….

cheap but practical drawers for storage in my kitchen. With a super small kitchen I really need more space. Having four extra drawers helps a great deal and I even have the top for extra space when cooking or cleaning.

cheap but practical drawers for storage in our dining areas. The former drawer for our utensils is now the much needed “junk and catch all” drawer. So much easier reaching for napkins and utensils right next to the table.

dining drawers PNGThe other day in daycare, the artist Bill Hernandez came in and did a caricature of Dino…I plan on framing it for his room.

My crocheting is getting better and I am now making granny squares with leftover yarn. I found great tutorials on you tube from Yolanda Soto Lopez her videos are easy to follow
and instructional.

granny squaresPNG

I made a scarf, yeah it’s short, but I don’t like having long scarves that get stuck in your coat or are too long. This size is perfect for my neck.

scarfpng

I made Dino a hat…one that is perfect for him. Sure it’s longer than I wanted, but he’ll
grow into it.

dino hatPNG dino hat2PNG

I even made a hat for myself…it came out REALLY big…but I used some creativity and sewed a string into it and pulled it tight across…so it looks fitted and kind of like a beret…I do like that it’s bigger so it won’t crush my curls.

~*~Thankful~*~

That I was able to find the products I wanted to organize our rooms.

I have a son who accepts and easily adapts when I change up and/or organize our space.

I had to spend little money getting it all done.

That Dino wants to do more independent things, such as getting his cup of milk from the fridge, get utensils form the drawer, throw dirty clothes in the washing machine, put clean clothes away, and put dirty dishes and utensils in the sink.

~*~Organization~*~

Last week I posted about having so space because of my hubby the space thief. He continues to deny that he is a clothes, pen, movie, and pretty much EVERYTHING hoarder. I think it’s time for things to suddenly and mysteriously dis disappear. LOL

Well thanks to Bed, Bath, and Beyond and their coupons I got THREE drawers for my room and TWO for Dino’s closet I got some more room in the closet…but will need to get more hangers since hubby likes to steel them too.

our closetThese drawers came in handy, I covered the front with some old wrapping paper and it did the trick. I now have extra space, but became enraged when Hubby put his things on top of my drawers…I wanted to beat him. How dare he? Like he hasn’t taken over everything else?

my drawersFor Dino, I was able to get two smaller drawers for his puzzle pieces which I try to keep organized in plastic zip-loc baggies…makes it easier for him to open and close. After doing that, I was able to relabel all his bins, fit them in the closet in an organized way.

full closet

Legos cars dinos people games puzzles and pieces  dress up and trainbooks and where

I also moved the dresser over to the other wall and put the easel in corner; the paper and crayons underneath it for Dino to use. NO markers…after an incident in which he marked up the couch, walls, and rug with marker because he wanted to…there are no more markers in the house
for Dino.
dresser and easel

Then I moved the couch and table to the other corner so Dino could watch TV and relax. My mom just bought a nice table and chair set for Dino, this way he can eat, color, play, or do puzzles on his table like a big boy. It should be coming soon. Thanks Mom. Then we’ll
donate the table and chair since we don’t have room and Dino prefers to watch TV from
his bed anyway.

couch and tableUPDATE….after I organized this post…My parents bought him a table and chair set.
Dino LOVES it.

~*~THANKFUL~*~

Thankful that Dino is more independent and was great in the mall. He walked beside me ran ahead of me, but stayed closed and stopped when I told him too. He did fall down all the time, but with Dino he only has TWO speeds…fast and faster. He listened while on the elevator and helped me pick out earrings. He waited patiently on line for the carousel and sat ate lunch nicely next to me. There are days I am floored by what a big boy I have.

I am thankful that Alanna suggested I start crocheting. It REALLY is easier for me. I am getting the hang of crocheting. While I am still a beginner and could probably only makes scarves, I am having a blast. It’s a thin scarf, but I am so gosh darn proud.

CAM03978

I’ve made a few errors, but got the hang of “turning the chain” but I just say making the length for the next row.

CAM03982

Now I am starting a new scarf, this one goes ten across…I’m getting braver and saved the nicer color blend for when I got the hang of crocheting. I can’t wait to see the final project. My mother crochets…I NEVER KNEW THAT, or maybe I did and just forgot…I’ve been forgetting quite a bit over the years. So maybe she can help me with ending the scarf instead of just making a knot. I wonder if I can add tassels or fringe?

CAM04023png

In just two days I’m making great progress, don’t you think?

scarfpng

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Hubby, the Space Thief

Hubby has taken over the closet, in fact the entire bedroom. He has three containers, two under the bed and one behind the dresser, most of the dresser drawers and 3/4 of the closet. I have 1/4 of the closet, one shelf in the closet, and three drawers in the dresser.

 CAM04042png

The lack of closet space is WHY my clothes are on the dresser in this utter mess.

CAM04041png

I know my mother is freaking out that I am showing this mess on my dressers…but I know I am not the only one with this disaster. I am going to head over to Bed, Bath, and Beyond tomorrow with the coupon and see if I can purchase  plastic or wicker drawers to put on top of the dresser.  We rent a small apartment, so we can’t really change any of the structure. So that is why I though I would use space by going up instead of taking precious and limited floor space.

Any suggestions or ideas?
