Learning Never Ends

Finish the Sentence Friday

“I’m done with school, but learning never ends”

I have quite a few degrees and certifications. You didn’t know that? Well I don’t like to brag, but I am truly proud of all that I have accomplished.

I have an associate’s degree, bachelor’s degree, and a master’s degree. I have three certifications that allow me to work as an elementary school teacher, special education teacher, and a literacy specialist. In addition I am certified in levels 1-6 of a multisensory language instruction program. I started teaching 1999 and have been working in education ever since, except for the one year I was laid off. That is a total of THIRTEEN years as a teacher, TEN of those as reading specialist.

As I sit here typing this I am shocked at how long I have been teaching and how far I have come. WOW! What a career, so many achievements, accomplishments, struggles, changes, successes and failures. I do love what I do and am always learning something new.

I try to take a course or two online every year. This not only keeps me informed and up to date on current procedures in education, but provides me with professional development hours to keep my certifications.

I was once asked if I would go for my doctorate. Nope, not interested, but I would like to earn my certification for levels 7-12 of the multisensory language instruction program.

Outside of education, I would love to

  • learn Italian
  • take pottery course
  • learn Pilates
  • take cooking classes

What do you still want to learn?

F is for Failure

I did NOT do as much with F as I wanted to…I feel so bad for my son. Though don’t worry…I don’t REALLY feel like a failure, we did so many other wonderful things with Dinosaur this week. In addition to that, I will hopefully have good news in a week or two.

On Friday Dinosaur found the letter A, Dinosaur took one of daddy’s mini football helmets and pulled out the stuffing and proudly said, “I found letter A”.  Of course it was an upside down V, but at least he is on the right track. I was so proud of him.

So anyway, I am going to make up for it and be super Dinosaur Teacher for the letter G and fall colors this week. I will post all about them next Monday.

When have you all felt like you let down your kid(s)…but it all worked out or really wasn’t a big deal to them.

So, here are some letter F activities I found while searching around…try them out.

Fall Theme and the Letter “E”

Last week son’s daycare was focusing on the letter “E” and Fall. I created an “E” words PowerPoint, check my wiki space for more information on ordering PowerPoints. Below are some great resources I found on the internet, go check them out and try them with your kids.

Fire Safety and the Letter “D”

At school each week they are focusing on a theme and a letter. This past week it was fire safety and the letter “D”. I did some searching and found printables and activities that could work with Dinosaur.

Small area for displaying each week’s themes and focusing on our lessons.

D for dinosaur

letter d worksheet though not sure why there is an answer key, LOL

saying D words aloud

I also drew a large letter D and had Dinosaur paste images and pictures that began with the letter D. He had fun telling me where to put each picture on the letter D and pointing to the pictures each morning saying their names aloud.

Letter D PowerPoint lesson – I created a lesson where Dinosaur can click the buttons on my laptop and control the lesson. With each click of the button the picture appears to which he proudly says the word, another click makes the word appear, a final click plays the recording of us saying the word.

I uploaded the PDF of the presentation to my wiki space. Doing what I do best, I am going to create a lesson for each letter as the school year progresses. I will make the original presentation and a customized presentation available for a small fee. This sudden idea came to me as I was creating my son’s lessons and I decided to put my talent and ten plus years of teaching to good use.

I have a letter page and a theme page on my wiki space, go check it out and let me know what you think.
