Sneak Peak Saturday: Sea Change

Sneak Peek Saturday on Reading List a glimpse into what I am reading currently

Current book:

Sea Change by Karen White

Goodreads Summary:

For as long as she can remember, Ava Whalen has struggled with a sense of not belonging, and now, at thirty-four, she still feels stymied by her family. Then she meets child psychologist Matthew Frazier, and thinks her days of loneliness are behind her. After a whirlwind romance, they impulsively elope, and Ava moves to Matthew’s ancestral home on St. Simons Island off the coast of Georgia.

But after the initial excitement, Ava is surprised to discover that true happiness continues to elude her. There is much she doesn’t know about Matthew, including the mysterious circumstances surrounding his first wife’s death. And her new home seems to hold as many mysteries and secrets as her new husband. Feeling adrift, Ava throws herself into uncovering Matthew’s family history and that of the island, not realizing that she has a connection of her own to this place—or that her obsession with the past could very well destroy her future.

Sneak Peek:

Chapter 6

page 72

I nodded but felt no relief as I remembered the hand-painted tiles in the kitchen, as if they were footprints of his dead wife walking through our home and marriage. “Please take me home.”

Initial Thoughts

This is going to be slow paced, but intense suspense and mystery. Page by page you feel like you are going crazy. Could something bad be on the horizon or will it end all tied up nicely.

Sneak Peak Saturday

Welcome to Sneak Peek Saturday on Reading List!

Sneak Peek Saturday on Reading List a glimpse into what I am reading currently

Current book:

My Sister’s Grave by Robert Dugoni

Goodreads Summary:

Tracy Crosswhite has spent twenty years questioning the facts surrounding her sister Sarah’s disappearance and the murder trial that followed. She doesn’t believe that Edmund House — a convicted rapist and the man condemned for Sarah’s murder — is the guilty party. Motivated by the opportunity to obtain real justice, Tracy became a homicide detective with the Seattle PD and dedicated her life to tracking down killers.

When Sarah’s remains are finally discovered near their hometown in the northern Cascade mountains of Washington State, Tracy is determined to get the answers she’s been seeking. As she searches for the real killer, she unearths dark, long-kept secrets that will forever change her relationship to her past — and open the door to deadly danger.

Sneak Peek:

Chapter 15

Mr Caughman looked like he was about to cry. “Do you know she rides her bike all the way to the hospital to visit Peter.”
“She does?”
The hospital was one town over in Silver Spurs. Sarah would have been in big trouble if their parents found out.
“She brings him coloring books.” He said, eyes moist.

Initial Thoughts

Already captivating thriller, switching between the present and past. We are slowly getting to know why Tracy is the person she is today. I can’t wait to see how the past unfolds.
Think the truth of her sister’s murderer will be a true shock everyone.
In the past events, we are getting to the know the type of person Sarah was, which makes what happened to her even more heartbreaking.

Our Healthy Meal Plan

I started using The Six O’Clock Scramble for meal planning and organized shopping lists. I can alter the recipe to make it organic/NON-GMO. Most of the recipes use the slow cooker or can be made in under 30 minutes.  If I make a big meal in the slow cooker, we can have leftovers for lunch and dinner the next day.

meal plan blank 00197c color (2)

  • 21st Thurs Dinner- Leftover veggie soup and rice quesadillas
  • 22nd Fri Dinner- slow cooked chicken, potatoes, mushrooms,
  • 23rd Saturday– leftover chicken

Dino hates burgers, but hubby loves them. Hubby is going back to nights so we had what we wanted for dinner tonight. It’s not my favorite, but Dino was happy with the hot dogs. I loved my potatoes and salad.

Potatoes: sliced, then coated with coconut oil. Then sprinkled sea salt and other seasonings on them, before baking them at 350 degrees for 20-30 minutes. When taken out of oven, sprinkle shredded cheese on potatoes.

fri collage

Sorry, forgot to take pics…but Dino and I LOVED them…so flipping good and what a great way to use leftover rice and beans.

sat collage

I did take pics…but only of us hanging out by hubby’s fire pit…but it was too dark and my phone doesn’t take good pictures in the dark. We had a great time though

Sun collage

Now that I will be going to back to work soon and most likely helping Dino with his kindergarten homework I need to make more slow cooked meals and use leftovers for other meals. I made rosemary and balsamic slow cooked chicken. It really was simple…I doused the whole chicken in balsamic vinegar and covered with tons of rosemary…it tasted wonderful. Then I baked potatoes, broccoli, and green beans with coconut oil and seasoning. Together it was a great meal and we have tons of chicken for many leftover meals.

Mon - collage

What a super easy meal to make. Coated carrots in coconut oil, honey, and lemon dill seasoning and sauteed on stove top. Then put chicken on bread and poured on homemade gravy. How did I make the gravy? Well I boiled some of the homemade chicken broth form the slow cooked chicken and added a ton of pancake mix…yup, that easy. Hubby insisted on some mac and cheese, but I didn’t have any. Dino was so tired from having a fun day with friends at the farm, but he had most of his food.

I was able to make three baggies of chicken gravy and three bags of chicken with veggies. Each bag is perfect for two people or three with small portions. Hopefully if I keep this up, I will have extra meals for when I am working late or can’t cook.

nature box collage

I decided to try Naturebox and do love it. Sure it’s a bit pricey, but you are getting darn good and healthy snacks and tons of variety. It teaches Dino there are more snacks than the ones he’s used to. After sampling each bag of snacks we probably ate a whole serving, so each of the snack bags I made could have had more in it or another bag. Not bad, right?

Toasted Sesame Sticks are like bread sticks…only healthier. Mommy YES, Dino NO

Sweet Blueberry Almonds are great way to eat more almonds, sweet but no yucky aftertaste Mommy Yes, Dino Yes

Mango Orange fruit Chews are like regular fruit chews, similar to the NON-GMO ones we buy at Whole Foods. Mommy Yes, Dino Yes

Mesa Chips, are like mini corn chips, they are okay, but I won’t buy them again. Mommy No Dino No

Dutch Sun Cocoa Crunch are like mini dried out brownies…but have a great cocoa taste. Mommy Yes, Dino Yes

Big Island Pineapple are so flipping good and sweet, naturally sweet. Mommy Yes, Dino Yes

tues veggie soup collage

Another great slow cooker meal…I put only a BIT of dry lentils…too much and I get sick. Then I added couscous, sliced tomatoes, spinach, and fresh herbs and seasonings. After it was cooked, I added the previously cooked potatoes, carrots, and green beans.

It was so good and tasty…Dino loved it and plan on having it tomorrow with rice.

Tues first daycollage

I am so excited for Dino, he’s a big boy now and on his way to learning.

wed collage

I made a big batch of rice and sectioned them into smaller bags. I took one bag and mixed it with some leftover soup and topped it with colby cheese…SO GOOD. Dino just about licked the bowl clean.

Yes, buying organic/NON-GMO is expensive. Until there is a big change in food production and what consumers buy, healthy choices will always be more expensive. If you want to start small with organic…here are some great tips.

Dinosaur Reads…

it;s hard to be five

I will be prepared for kindergarten with all the books I’m reading.

knight for a day

Amazon Summary:

It’s hard to be five.
Just yelled at my brother.
My mind says do one thing.
My mouth says another.

It’s fun to be five!
Big changes are here!
My body’s my car,
and I’m licensed to steer.

Learning not to hit? Having to wait your turn? Sitting still? It’s definitely hard to be five. But Jamie Lee Curtis’s encouraging text and Laura Cornell’s playful illustrations make the struggles of self-control a little bit easier and a lot more fun!

This is the sixth inspired book from the #1 New York Times best-selling team of Today I Feel Silly: & Other Moods That Make My Day and I’m Gonna Like Me: Letting Off a Little Self Esteem.

Dino Review: I just turned five! and I’ll be going to kindergarten soon. I have to do lots of work, but still need to play. Mommy and Daddy make lots of rules and I get mad. I have to listen to my teachers and be nice to my friends. I have to be nice and say, please, thank you, and no problem. I want to be a superhero when I grow up.

Mommy Review: Who doesn’t love a Jamie Lee Curtis book? It’s a great book that explains why its so hard to be five. A time when you are starting school, but still a little kid that needs understanding. I loved it and know Dino agreed with lots of the pictures and comments.

Getting Stronger and Healthier for my son

I JOINED A GYM…sure I only get to go three times a week after school, before I get Anthony. But even a half and hour of the step machine and weights…will make a BIG difference. I even plan to go on Sunday morning…great way to spend ME time.

I think there is one other lady in the weight lifting area of the gym when I go. Some of the guys look at me like I’m invading their man space…I just nod at them and keep on my routine. I will mark how much I can lift on different machines next week..since I forgot. I do remember that I was shocked that the weights were heavier than I thought I could lift. GO ME

I am noticing even more strength as I walk up stairs…I just keep walking. No more worries about gasping for air. I am noticing that I can carry and lift Dino for longer periods of time.

I ALSO DID 5 PUSH UPS WITH DINO ON MY BACK!!!!! Granted they were knee push-ups…but that was still flipping hard dude.

Not only am I wearing size 16 pants that I have had for years, but I recently wore a dress that I couldn’t even get past my stomach…now it fits perfectly. I have other dresses…but I like to be covered up as I work in a high school most of the time. (Sorry for the fuzzy pic again…Hubby was rushing to take the pic before I left for work.)

I always have got my clothes ready the night before. I had my two outfits ready for Tuesday and Wednesday of this week and other outfits ready for next week. Next Friday I am going back to Dress Barn and buying another skirt and and shirt.

I like to rotate my outfits.YES, I HAVE A SYSTEM

1) I can wear the same skirt on Monday and Thursday, or Tuesday and Friday all with different shirts. Even a dress can be worn on Monday and Friday…if I change the look a cardigan.
2) After dresses and shirts are washed and dried, they go to the beginning of the closet.
3) When I run out of shirts, I put them back in the correct order
4) Dresses, shirts, and cardigans are all in different groups. Each group is then broken down by color.
5) I find it easier to find what to wear when I know where it will be.
6) If I can’t find it, it’s either being washed, hanging to dry, or in the beginning of the closet.

 closet with clothes undergarments

My closet is filled with brown basics and shoes…from there I can add to it. I have shirts, skirts, cardigans, and dresses that can all be mixed and matched. I prefer short sleeve and sleeves since I get too hot very easily. I dress in layers…so I don’t need to worry about summer/winter clothes transitioning. So basically……

CLOSET: nice close and undergarments;
DRAWERS: pajamas, everyday outfits, weekend clothes.

outfit 1 and 2                                                              outfit 3outfit 4outfit 5business skirt

As for shoes, I do have some high heels, but always bring a good pair of flats with me…just in case. I travel to schools and need to be comfortable.

I am still here and have tons of posts already scheduled…will just be late to the parties, LOL.
